Merchants Metals has a long and rich heritage in the United States fencing industry. The company was originally established in 1953 as Gibraltar Fence in Houston, Texas. In 1969 the company was acquired by Merchants, primarily a trucking and transportation business. By continuing to acquire more companies, Merchants added to their manufacturing strength and began their quest to gain a national network of manufacturing and distribution facilities.

In 1989 the company was merged with Ivy Steel & Wire and Meadow Steel Products to form MMI Products, Inc. and by the mid 1990's Merchants' strength had grown the total number of distribution centers to 35. By the late 90’s, Merchants opened 9 more distribution centers and acquired 3 more major companies. These acquisitions broadened our manufacturing strength and marked our entrance into the manufacturing of ornamental fencing products on both coasts.

At present day, Merchants Metals is a leading producer and a major distributor of hot dipped galvanized and vinyl coated chain link fence systems in the U.S. and also manufactures a complete line of ornamental steel fencing in both component and fully welded systems. In addition, other products distributed by Merchants Metals include wood, PVC, aluminum and steel ornamental fencing, gate operators and access control products produced by the finest manufacturers in the industry. Merchants Metals products are manufactured and distributed through 6 manufacturing plants and 48 service centers nationwide.
